When did you last finish a thought?

On the second day of the darkroom, something shifted...

On the second day in the darkroom, something changed.
The noise settled.
And I noticed I could do something I'm not sure I had ever done before.
I could take a single thought.
Like lifting a box down from a shelf.
Open it up.
Think the thought all the way through to the end.
Close it.
Put it back.
And then sit there in the quiet for a moment.
And then decide what I wanted to think about next.
It sounds simple.
But it was one of the most profound things I have ever experienced.
Because I realised something sitting there in the dark.
I almost never do that.
Not in a meeting.
Not at my desk.
Not even on a walk.
There is always something pulling me to the next thing.
Before the first thing is finished.
I work with leaders and teams every day.
And what I see most often isn't a lack of intelligence or drive.
It's unfinished thinking.
Thoughts that never quite land.
Decisions made before the real question was ever asked.
When did you last finish a thought?
more on this later...
Warmly, - Rick §;-)
