Resilience or Fear?
This is something new like I've never seen before

Are you reacting from a state of Resilience or Fear?
In the many years I’ve worked with leaders, teams, and businesses, I’ve never seen this much change happening this quickly.
We are living through extraordinary times.
AI has opened up more opportunity, more possibility, and more uncertainty than most of us know how to process.
And as I’ve been navigating this shift myself, I’ve noticed something very human happening inside me.
A tug-of-war between resilience and fear.
Part of me feels genuinely excited.
I’m experimenting with new tools. Exploring new ideas. Imagining what might be possible for leaders, teams, communication, trust, and the future of human development.
There are moments when it feels energizing and expansive.
And then, sometimes, usually when I’m tired or have spent too long staring at the screen, another voice appears.
“I need to keep up.”
“If I don’t understand this quickly enough, I’ll be left behind.” “What if I miss the opportunity?”
Maybe you know that voice too.
After coaching and facilitating with hundreds of leaders and teams, I’ve learned that one of the biggest differences between growth and stuckness is not intelligence, strategy, or even ambition.
It is the state we are operating from.
Am I acting from a state of resilience?
Or am I acting from a state of fear?
Because those two states create very different futures.
When I act from resilience, I become more curious. I listen better. I see more options. I can stay open, even when things are uncertain.
When I move from fear, I contract. I push. I rush. I try to control the future before I have even understood what is being asked of me.
And I think this matters deeply right now.
Because like me, many leaders are trying to innovate while their nervous systems are overwhelmed.
They are asking, “What should we build? What should we change? How fast do we need to move?”
But perhaps the better first question is:
“From what state am I making these decisions?”
Is this coming from a state of growth and expansion?
“This is interesting. There is something here. What could we learn? What might become possible?”
Or is it coming from a state of fear and contraction?
“We have to figure this out.”
“We cannot afford to fall behind.”
“We need results now.”
Expansion or contraction.
Resilience or fear.
One creates clarity, trust, and intelligent action.
The other slowly becomes a prison.
Trying to lead, innovate, or build from an un-regulated state usually creates more noise, not more wisdom.
And decisions made from fear often take us further away from what we actually want.
So maybe the first move right now is not to move faster.
Maybe it is to regulate first. To choose the state we want.
Pause.
Breathe.
Come back to yourself.
Reconnect with what matters, with your true purpose.
Because when we are grounded, we think more clearly.
When we are grounded, we communicate with more trust.
When we are grounded, the next right step usually becomes much easier to see. Warmly, - Rick §;-)
